Why should I become a member?

How do I sign up to become a member?

The membership will be a monthly subscription. It will only take a minute or two to complete the paperwork – just click on the link join Plotkin & Chandler and then sign the terms and conditions on that page. Once you have signed up you will see a message on the site asking which membership option you would like and then follow the instructions.

Are you a Union?

No – nor are we political or connected with a political party. We would not be involved in strike action, but are instead completely focused on ensuring that we provide our members with the best possible advice and support. We are a claims management company, regulated and authorised by the Financial Conduct Authority. Our Firm Reference Number is 834469. We can support you with all aspects of your employment matter, including Employment Tribunal representation.  

How is your membership scheme different from a union?
As we are not a union, we are not concerned with arranging strike action or participating in collective bargaining, nor are we political. Unlike a workplace union rep who works for your company, our advisors are completely impartial. We are passionate about providing support which is tailored to the needs of our members.
As a member, is there a limit to the number of occasions I can access support?
Absolutely not. We want our members to contact us whenever they have a concern so that we can support them fully.
I am going to a different job can I stay on the membership scheme?
Of course! We are proud to say that many of our members have stayed with us for years and are reassured that support is on hand whenever they need it, wherever they are employed.
I have an employment issue that began when I was not a member. Can you help me?
Unfortunately not, pre-existing issues are not covered as part of our membership scheme. Our memberships are designed to provide future peace of mind, rather like how we take out insurance to protect us from possible risks in the future. However, we do offer our services on an hourly rate or, in some cases, on a no win no fee arrangement. We would be delighted to hear from you and to discuss your situation.
If I am a member and need to bring an employment tribunal claim, can you help?
As a member, we should already be aware of the circumstances leading up to this possibility, and would continue to support you throughout the process. If we believe that it would be appropriate to lodge an employment tribunal claim, we would do so. There would be no charge to you as it is included within your membership.

We work exclusively in the areas of HR and employment law. Any litigation support, such as drafting documentation in relation to a claim, is handled in house. Meaning that those handling your case are fully aware of all that has happened and any decisions relating to Tribunal claims can be made quickly so that you are not left in limbo.

Will you assist me with the paperwork or will I have to do it myself?
As a member, we will draft all the paperwork on your behalf, based on the information you provide to us. We will handle your case from start to finish and will liaise with other parties for you when this becomes necessary.
I am happy in my job why would I want to sign up as a member now?

I like the idea, but my workplace does not recognise unions what should I do?

We are not a union and so any such objections would not affect you if you chose to join our membership scheme.

We are a Claims Management Company authorised and regulated by the Financial Conduct Authority and can represent you at the Employment Tribunal if such action becomes necessary.

I have a problem at work, but I don’t want to rock the boat – what should I do?

We know that whilst workplace problems are common, most of us don’t want to leave. What we do want is for the issue to be resolved so that we return to how things were before it happened. When problems do arise it is likely to be distressing and for things to escalate further. In order to avoid this, seek advice as soon as possible. It may be that a short telephone call with an advisor could be enough to provide the information that is needed along with any next steps.

 

Having support in place means that you will know whether or not you are being treated properly and, if not, what should be done to resolve the situation. Far from rocking the boat, we are able to support you from behind the scenes. Such support may well increase the likelihood of you remaining in the workplace because instead of just leaving because you did not know what else to do, you have the information you need to make an informed decision about what is best for you.

Whatever the situation you are facing, we can support you. For our members, an unlimited amount of support is available within the membership fee. For non-members, support is available on an hourly rate basis.

If I join up will it cover a pre-existing issue?
